Term 1 Week 3 Update

The end of the week came around very fast -  even the children have been asking how come the day goes so fast. Everyone is eagerly anticipating the metamorphosis of our caterpillar into a butterfly. Once the chrysalis becomes transparent we will be able to see the wings forming, then it won't be long until the beautiful butterfly emerges.

Congratulations to Ella (Values Certificate), Thomas K (Heart of Achievement Certificate) and Holly (Academic Certificate) who received awards at the Year 2 Assembly this week. You make us proud! You can read Holly's recount on the Wow Writing Tab at the top of this blog.

Butterfly Garden Update

Last week we planted some more flowers. We hope these will attract some more Monarch butterflies to drink the nectar and then they will lay some more eggs on our swan plants.

Thank you Brooke M for taking the photographs.

Term 1 Week 3 Newsletter

Welcome to Week Three!

Congratulations to Riley and Niamh who received certificates at the Year 2 assembly on Friday morning. It was lovely to see so many family members present too.

On Friday afternoon our Monarch caterpillar began its transformation. We now have a shiny green chrysalis hanging from the swan plant.

The Desk Fairy also visited the classroom over the weekend and left a wee treat for those children with tidy desks.

Home Learning Scrapbooks and Sheets
Thank you to everyone who handed these in on Friday. Please sign at the bottom of the Home Learning Sheets as this helps me to ensure that everyone is seeing the information included.

Guess the Baby Competition
The clues and photos are now on display on the back wall of the classroom. What a cute bunch! If you haven’t brought in or emailed your child’s baby photo to me, please do this urgently so they can be included in the display. Entries will be accepted next week with the winner announced in week 5.

Goal Setting Interviews
This week we will be focusing on assessments to help develop goals for Term one and two. Remember to book your interview time online or pop in to the office for assistance.

Class Contact List
This will be photocopied at the end of the week and distributed to those who have added their contact details for other parents/caregivers. Please make sure you add your name by Wednesday if you want to be included.

Reading
Due to assessments, children will mainly be bringing home browsing box books.

Swimming
A large number of permission forms are still outstanding for our Aquagym sessions 11th to 15th March. Please return these as soon as possible.

Assembly
The next Year 2 assembly will be held in Room 1 on Friday morning at 9:10am. You will be contacted if your child is receiving a certificate. Please ensure I have your current email address to make this easier.

Week 2 Newsletter

Welcome to week 2 in Room 19. I am very pleased with the way everyone has quickly settled into their new room and new routines. The Class contact list will be on the round table this week. Don’t forget to add your details if you want a copy next week.
Stationery
Thank you for your assistance in organising stationery so promptly. It is a big help when everyone has the correct equipment at school. You help in ensuring that they have sharp pencils and a pen on hand each morning would also be appreciated.
Reading
This week will see the start of group reading. The children will be bringing home books and/or their poetry book Monday through Thursday. The reader may be a new one or one they have selected from their browsing box. Readers may be kept for the whole week and we encourage the repeated reading of the books, along with books from your own collections at home. Readers need to be returned to the box on the round table on Friday mornings and poetry books placed in the poetry book box under the whiteboard.
Swimming
A notice about swimming at Aquagym was sent home last week. Please return these as soon as possible. Replacement notices can be requested at the office if the original has gone astray.
Assembly
The Year 2 assembly will be held in Room 1 on Friday and you are welcome to attend. You will be contacted if your child is receiving a certificate.
2013 Class Blog
Our new blog is set up and will shortly be accessible from the St Albans website. In the meantime I will double post notices on last year’s blog (See the Year 3 Team) or you may access the 2013 blog directly at
Please complete the Family Information form as soon as possible. We are learning about the Room 19 Butterfly Garden this week. Have you checked out the link to the Monarch Butterfly NZ Trust on the sidebar yet?
Baby Photos
Remember to bring a photo for the competition starting next week. Alternatively a digital image can be emailed directly to me at

T1W1 Update

This week we have been getting to know each other and learning about our class rules and school values.

We have agreed on the following class rules.

  1. Keep ourselves healthy by washing our hands before eating and covering coughs and sneezes.
  2. Be kind to each other.
  3. Listen to instructions carefully.
  4. Respect our classmates learning.
  5. Look after all equipment by using is correctly and putting it away safely.
  6. Be honest.
  7. Welcome new people to our school and classroom.

As part of our responsibilities we have been learning about the Room 19 butterfly garden. The Garden Gnomes spent time on Friday lunchtime getting rid of weeds and watering it. Thank you for giving up some of your lunchtime. Thomas R has also made a sign for us to put up to help protect the caterpillars from inquisitive fingers. Good thinking Thomas. On Monday we will be putting in some more nectar plants to attract more butterflies to lay eggs.
