Athletics Day, Swimming & Kittens

Another very busy week in Room 19. Early in the week, Ruby brought her kittens in to see us. They are very cute and playful.

We also started swimming in our pool. It was wonderful to see how confident the children are in the water now. I was also impressed at how they are able to organise themselves and manage their gear.

Some wonderful children also received certificates at our assemblies in week 7 and week 8. Noah and Neo were awarded the Heart of Achievement certificates, Aakifah, Matthias, Brooke M and Hasini received the Values and Achievment certificates, and Coco, Holly, Noah and Riley earned stickers in their reading books.

On Athletics Day, both our relay teams put in a great effort. They had all worked hard on their fitness and on the all important baton changes. It was great to see their determination in the race. The girls finished second and the boys finished first. The boys then had the opportunity to compete against the parents who had to work very hard for their win. I wonder what the result will be next year?

There is a new link on the sidebar for a site called "The Cat in the Hat Knows About That". If you are a fan of Dr Seuss, you will enjoy these games and activities.

Hope to see you at Market Day on Saturday.

Term 3 Week 6

Another busy week in Room 19 and lots to celebrate.

At the Celebration Assembly on Monday we were treated to a performance by the kapa haka team - what an outstanding group we have at St Albans. Thomas received a certificate and prize for being one of the top fund raisers in the recent Maths-a-thon. Great work Thomas. Thank you to everyone who helped the children practise and get sponsors, we are looking forward to getting some more math equipment in the classrooms. If your sheet is still outstanding or you have lost it, please let the office know.

On Tuesday we listened to some great poetry. Well done to Holly, Noah and Brooke M who represented our class in the Year One and Two Poetry competition. We were very proud of you and think you did an awesome job. Congratulations to Eve, Riley B (Room 16) and Isabelle (Room 18) who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Congratulations to Rosa, Ruby, Shiako, Riley, Vianca, Amelia, Noah, Holly and Matthias for their wonderful reading and gaining stickers in their log books.

Shiako was our paparazzi this week and he took these terrific photos for our blog.

T3W1 Roundup

We have had a couple of changes to our classroom this term. Matthew has shifted to Auckland and Thomas has also moved on. Have a great time at your new schools boys. The photos went home last week and orders should be lodged at the office. What a great looking bunch of kids!!! Thank you to everyone who has started bringing in sewing equipment for our kits, puppets and costumes. Basic fact home learning for the next couple of weeks will be to work on the Maths-a-thon facts that were sent home on Thursday. Spelling and reading will continue as normal.

Congratulations to Hasini and Shiako who received certificates at assembly this week.

We also had some great readers over the holidays. Well done Matthias, Brooke, Niamh and Rosa.

Mondrian Inspired Art

Last week we learnt about the artist Piet Mondrian (1872 - 1944). We looked at images of his paintings and then created our own in a similar style.

We think our geometric art looks fabulous, come and see for yourself. Thank you to Ruby, our Paparazzi, for the great photos.

Big Day Out at Clip 'n' Climb

What an awesome afternoon we had at Clip ' n' Climb this afternoon. Thank you very much to all our parent helpers who came along and helped; we would not have been able to get so much climbing in without our help checking harnesses and belay attachments.

Some reflections on our Big Day Out;

Holly - I went up the walls lots of times.
Neo - I tried three times on the rope and ball wall to complete it.
Nick - I was proud when I got into the hole in the rock wall.
Lily - It was hard but I managed to do the dark chimneys.
Ella - Today I tried my best to get right up to the top of the coloured square wall.
Thomas K - I was pleased that I climbed to the top of the timed wall and pushed the button.
