Coke & Mentos

One of the highlights of science week was the coke and mentos geyser.

Check out the you tube clip below for more information.

To make this an experiment (not just a fun mess) we looked at some of the things we could change - the variables. To make it a fair test, you only change one variable at a time.

Our first test was;

  • Diet coke & peppermint mentos

Our second test was:

  • Diet coke and fruit flavoured mentos

Our third test was

  • Diet lemonade and peppermint mentos

We observed that:

  • You could still see the mentos lollies in the bottom of the bottle.
  • It didn't make any difference when we used fruit flavoured mentos lollies.
  • The diet lemonade went higher than the coke.
  • The coke and lemonade didn't taste very good afterwards.

If you want to see what this experiment would be like with 158 bottles - click on the link below.

The Steve Spangler site has some great experiments you can try at home, but you do need to log in. This is a simple process - but make sure mum/dad do it for you!

AND ASK MUM/DAD BEFORE YOU TRY ANY OF THESE AT HOME!!!
